This illustration, "Prom Dress", appeared May 29, 2009 in The Globe and Mail. May Yeung's beautiful story captures the parallels between the author's coming-of-age in the 1970s and her daughter's high school prom. When daughter Katie finds herself at a loss for the perfect dress, Yeung takes a trip to the attic where the relics of her own youth reside. In the pile she uncovers her old prom dress along with forgotten memories of her youth. This, all along, was the "perfect" dress - Katie wears it to her prom, and Yeung "smiles as I envision her dancing the night away in my black velvet gown".
